About

Jun has been a member of the Birmingham Platelet Group as a British Heart Foundation Research Fellow since 2005. During this time, she has been jointly supervised by Professor Watson and Dr. Senis. She has a strong background in molecular and cellular biology and is familiar with all platelet biochemical and functional assays used in the group.

Biography

Jun qualified in 2001 as a dentist and has worked within an Oral Surgery Group supervised by Professor Shirasuna in Dental School, Kyushu University, Japan. Apart from clinical time, she has also studied biochemistry and molecular biology during her PhD supervised Dr. Takahashi-Yanaga and Professor Sasaguri in Medical School, Kyushu University, Japan.  After obtaining her PhD, she has moved to the UK starting a post-doctoral fellowship in University of Birmingham.

Research

Jun has studied novel receptors/signalling proteins in human and mouse platelets. Her main research projects have included the investigation of immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif (ITAM) and ITIM receptor signalling in platelets, and functional redundancy between CD148 and the non-transmembrane PTP PTP-1B in platelet activation and thrombosis. The recent project she is working on is very exciting and utilizes genetically modified mouse models to investigate the functional roles of tyrosine phosphatases in platelets.
