Biography

Dr Sharon Riordan is the Programme Lead for the MSc/PGD/PGC in Forensic Mental Health Studies and a Lecturer in Forensic Mental Health Care at the University of Birmingham. Her main research interests are concerning the care and treatment of mentally disordered offenders. She has undertaken projects concerning various aspects of forensic psychiatry including research into medium secure care, mentally disordered offenders contact with the police and the effectiveness of statutory community aftercare for potentially dangerous offenders. She has presented her work at both national and international conferences.

In addition she is a tribunal member of the First Tier Tribunals (Health and Social Care Chamber) Mental Health where she is involved in deciding the legitimacy of detention for those compulsory detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007).
