EPSRC Core Capability Funding Award

The School of Chemistry has recently secured funding from the recent EPSRC Core Capability in Chemistry initiative. Funds have been awarded in excess of £900k from EPSRC, with a further £500k from the University of Birmingham, and been invested in the analytical facilities of the department in the areas of mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

The items of equipment acquired include a travelling-wave ion mobility mass spectrometer (IM-MS) with both matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation (MALDI) and electrospray ionisation capabilities, multinuclear diffusion and imaging NMR probes, single crystal X-ray diffractomter and a multi-purpose X-ray diffractometer with controllable environment and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) capability.
