Professional accreditation of Civil Engineering Degrees at Birmingham

Our BEng, MEng and MSc degree programmes* are accredited by the Institutions of Civil and Structural Engineers, and are compatible with the latest guidelines for professional engineering registration.

For BEng degrees, these are accredited as:

  1. fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
  2. partially satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng). A programme of accredited Further Learning will be required to complete the educational base for CEng

All Birmingham MEng degrees are accredited as fully satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng). It is also recognised by the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI).

Technical MScs are accredited as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng(Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. Some are accredited by more than one professional institution, depending on the subject matter. Please refer to the relevant course details for further details. All of our MScs are currently accredited as technical with the exception of the MSc in Construction Management.
