Ian Preston is a part time Clinical Lecturer at the School of Dentistry. He is deputy head of a 5th BDS clinic; leading weekly tutorials covering a wide range of subject areas allied to the practice of Dentistry, as well as providing one-to-one teaching of dental students during patient treatment sessions.
In addition Ian is a consulting clinical lecturer for the UCL Eastman Dental Institute where he regularly contributes to their DRDP/Msc programmes.
Ian also provides postgraduate courses run by the West Midlands Deanery for Foundation Dentists.
Outside his education commitments he maintains a Private Practice in South Warwickshire.
Ian read Dentistry at the University of Birmingham and following qualification in 1990, worked as a house surgeon at Birmingham Dental Hospital. In 1992 he completed a Vocational Training year based at a general practice in Tamworth, and simultaneously worked part time as a clinical assistant in the Paediatric Dentistry department at Birmingham Dental Hospital.
In 1992/3 Ian worked part time as a clinical assistant in Restorative Dentistry at Birmingham Dental Hospital, and also in 1992 was appointed part time clinical lecturer at the School of Dentistry, he is currently Deputy Head of Firm C GDP Clinic. During this period Ian continued with his NHS general dental practice commitment.
In 1996 along with two colleagues he became a principal of Shipston Dental Practice in South Warwickshire which has held the BDA Good Practice Award since 2003.
In 2004 Ian was appointed as a consulting clinical lecturer at the Eastman Dental Institute in London.
