Students and recent graduates of the Drama and Theatre Arts course here at the University of Birmingham have been involved in several roles within the Olympics- all utilising skills acquired during their time here.

Current students worked as skilled Games Makers during the Opening Ceremony, both behind the scenes and as performers. Recent graduates also have ongoing involvement, one as an Assistant Stage Manager on Opening and Closing Ceremonies for both the Olympic and  the Paralympic Games and another as part of the Olympic Broadcasting Services commentary team covering handball, hockey, volleyball, basketball and water polo.

Not to be outdone, there have been several other students involved in the Cultural Olympiad. These range from performing and assisting in the production of the high profile and ambitious Mittwoch aus Licht for Birmingham Opera Company, which has sold out nearly a month in advance of it’s world premiere during the London 2012 Festival, to several smaller local and national performances and events.

Well done to all!
