On 23 April 2015 Dr Caroline Radcliffe was invited to perform The Machinery as part of the Science Museum, London's, Music, Noise and Silence - three exploratory AHRC-funded workshops in which scholars from across the world discussed potential high-level narratives for a future exhibition on science, technology and music.

This digital performance, with choreography, sound and film made and performed live by Sarah Angliss and Caroline Radcliffe, offers an example of industrial noise music and dance dating back to at least 1820, revising all previous scholarship on industrial labour and performance.
