The magnificent Vernon manuscript is one of the best-kept secrets of West Midlands’ heritage.
Made for Midlands readers over 600 years ago, this extraordinary book contains hundreds of handwritten poems and stories in the regional dialect and is lavishly decorated and embellished with gold.
Featuring practical reconstructions of how it was made and experiments with how it may have sounded read aloud, this event explored how the manuscript changes the story of the Midlands and Midlanders.
Appearing alongside Professor Wendy Scase were illuminator and calligrapher, Patricia Lovett, and historian Michael Wood (BBC’s The Story of England).
This event was free and open to all. However places will be limited.
