Final-year English students were invited to participate in a Research Poster Conference, creating and presenting a poster which demonstrated the research they were undertaking for their dissertations or research projects.
This gave students an excellent opportunity to test their ideas as well as enabling them to improve their understanding of how to articulate and communicate their research to others. It also gave students the opportunity to really engage with the research culture of the Department, sharing ideas and gaining feedback and expert advice on their projects. Students found this opportunity exciting and beneficial as it allowed them to share their passion for their subject whilst also consolidating their arguments for their writing.
Taking part in the poster conference really helped me to clarify my thoughts on my research project; I left the day with a stronger idea of what I was going to write about, and with some great suggestions from staff and students. It was also a nice opportunity to get a bit creative! - Sian Mitchell
