A genre-based study of tutors' written feedback

Supervisors: Professor Chris Kennedy

My research investigates feedback as a genre, identifying the structure of feedback given on the written work of undergraduate students in the United Kingdom. The aim of this research is to raise awareness of the language used in feedback for both the students and teachers. A genre analysis will be carried out on all the feedback gathered from two departments in a higher education institution. The findings reveal markers apply different move patterns and a combination of recurring steps and acts. With the findings of this research, I hope to develop a feedback framework which could be used as a foundation for example, in Initial Teacher Training Course as well as to increase markers awareness of effective ways of giving feedback.
