BEDSoc is here to offer you the opportunity to engage with your fellow English students and professors outside of the academic environment.
Last year we launched a pilot parent/child mentor scheme to help first year students in English, which was very successful and which means that next year (2014/2015) we will be rolling out the scheme school-wide! The idea of the mentor scheme is for you to ask your 'parent' about anything you may not have anyone else to ask about - not just questions concerning English but about the University and the city of Birmingham in general.
We organise social nights throughout the year such as quiz nights or socials in the town which aim to break down barriers between first, second and third years so as to allow you to enrich your university life with a variety of students from different years. We also have our annual Spring Ball which takes place at the end of the second semester. This has been a big success in the last two years with The Great Gatsby and Once Upon A Time Fairytale Ball themes. Next year we are also aiming to organise academic events which we hope will involve not only professors arguing their thoughts but students also.
