Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics
My research investigates the metaphoric competence of Japanese university students studying English as a foreign language. The purpose of this research is to identify how the psychological traits, creativity and motivation, effect metaphorical understanding in a foreign language. I will administer a motivational questionnaire, a creativity test, and a metaphorical competence test to the student participants. I hope to use the findings in this research to promote a foreign language curriculum that advocates both creativity and metaphoric awareness in the classroom.
