David Lodge

The fourth lecture in the Birmingham Visiting Writers' Programme series was held on the 9 February 2011, with David Lodge, Emeritus Professor of English Literature and eminent novelist/author and literary critic, as our celebrity speaker.

In a full lecture theatre, we were treated to a unique and intimate insight into the writing of David Lodge’s forthcoming novel, A Man of Parts, in which he explores the life and times of HG Wells. For the audience this was both a master-class in creative writing and an authoritative introduction to the biographical novel as contemporary literary genre. The breadth of David’s authorship was clearly visible in the range of titles provided by the University branch of Waterstones for the book-signing afterwards.
