The British Graduate Shakespeare Conference

britgrad

BritGrad - The Annual British Graduate Shakespeare Conference, is held every summer at The Shakespeare Institute in Stratford upon Avon.

Graduate students are welcome to present papers on any topic in the field of Shakespeare, Renaissance and Early Modern Studies. Undergraduate students in their final two years of study are also invited to attend the conference as auditors.

The conference provides a friendly and stimulating academic forum for graduate students from all over the world to meet, present and discuss their research in an active centre for Shakespeare scholarship. The student run conference is held at the University of Birmingham Shakespeare Institute, in Shakespeare’s hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. This gives delegates and auditors the opportunity to visit the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare’s Birthplace and historical landmarks, and the specialised research libraries of the Shakespeare Institute and the Shakespeare Centre archives.

Previous plenary speakers have included:   Erica Whyman OBE (Royal Shakespeare Company), Farah Karim Cooper (Shakespeare's Globe), Simon Palfrey (Oxford), Chris Laoutaris (University of Birmingham), Laurie Maguire (University of Oxford), Andy Kesson (University of Roehampton), Paul Edmondson (Shakespeare Birthplace Trust),  and Paul Prescott (University of Warwick)

Delegates have also had the opportunity to attend the RSC productions and there are also evening social events.

“ Britgrad 2016 was fantastic. The best kind of conference. Full of lovely, kind, generous & hugely knowledge people. Everything academia should be. ”

Sarah Waters, 2016 delegate
