In one of the highlights of this year's English undergraduate residential in Stratford, the director of the Royal Shakespeare Company's current much-acclaimed production of Hamlet, Simon Godwin, was interviewed by Michael Dobson, Director of the Shakespeare Institute.
The same undergraduates who had given his show (starring Papa Essiedu) a standing ovation the previous night were delighted to join in the questioning, and fascinated to learn about his next Shakespearean project, a production of Twelfth Night at the National Theatre with Tamsin Greig (who will be receiving her honorary doctorate from Birmingham on 7 July) as a lesbian Malvolio. When last seen, Mr Godwin was reading the introduction to Professor Dobson's new Penguin edition of Twelfth Night.
