I decided to undertake my PGCE, specialising in Science (Physics) at the University of Birmingham as it has one of the best reputations of all the Midlands universities and I wanted my career in education to have the best possible start. One of the best points of the course was the wide variety of wonderful people, including the tutors. Even though there were Universities that were closer and more convenient, as soon as I started the course, I knew I had made the right decision.
I am currently in my third year of teaching at a successful secondary school in Sandwell. Having just gained my first promotion within the science department, I fully intend to remain at the school and make them proud of my achievements. I run a successful Science and Engineering club after school that is supported by STEMNET, a DCSF funded body. The school has also received investment from the ‘Building Schools for the Future’ project and I believe that this will only help to attract staff and students alike.
Once I have established myself as an outstanding teacher, I would like to move in to a management role. I have taken the opportunity to extend my studies further through the MEd (Teaching Studies) course at the University of Birmingham, which I see as an investment in my future career. By part funding the course, my school has demonstrated that they see it as a sound investment too.
