Kirsty Thompson, University Certificate in Autistic Spectrum Disorders

I chose Birmingham as it was the only university that did the course I wanted to do. I was first attracted to the course as my son is autistic and I wanted to learn as much as possible. In addition, the course could help me career wise.

One of the best things about studying at Birmingham was that I felt like I wasn’t alone as I was part of a tutor group. I have also learnt an immense amount about why my son is the way he is.

The web-based distance education course fitted well around my life and the regional tutor was helpful. The perspectives of all the group were taken into consideration, and all the different resources we had available to us in our circumstances. I would recommend distant learning because it is so much less stressful than having to get to a college and arrange childcare etc.

If you are thinking about coming to the University of Birmingham than go for it! The course has helped my personal circumstances enormously and I am sure if I chose a career in this field, it would be immensely useful. I’ve had a positive university experience.
