Research Topic

Dyslexia in Nursing & Nurse Education – a case study

Research Summary

My research aims to explore dyslexia in nursing and nurse education through a longitudinal case study approach using interpretative phenomenological analysis to analyze the subsequent data. Dyslexia remains a much debated concept where there is no current definition that satisfies all parties (Pavey et al. 2011). Within nursing circles dyslexia is much debated within both nursing education and nursing practice in terms of its impact on nurses and nursing students who have dyslexia as well as its impact upon clinical practice with particular focus on safety and fitness for practice. My research aims to follow a number of dyslexic nursing students in their final six months of training through to nurse registration as well as speak to those who support them in university and in clinical practice through this period.
