School of Education Admission Requirements

Accreditation of Prior Learning(APL)/Non standard qualifications

Academic and professional qualifications and prior experience, if any, are normally taken into account and in some cases can form an integral part of the entry requirement. If you are unsure of what information to submit, please send as much information as possible to demonstrate qualifications and experience. More information on APL and non standard qualifications

Unless any particular requirements are specified on the programmes pages, admission entry requirements should be used as a guide to entry onto following awards.  

Advanced Certificate (AdCert): Level H

The minimum duration is three months and you need:

  • Relevant professional qualifications or the equivalent of 240 credits obtained after the equivalent of a two-year full-time programme of study at HE level and have relevant experience.
  • The School may admit candidates with other qualifications and experience deemed suitable for entry to this programme of study.

Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil): Level H 

The BPhil takes a minimum of 12 months study and you need:

  • to have a degree from an approved university or the equivalent of 240 credits obtained after the equivalent of a two-year full-time programme of study at HE level and have relevant experience.
  • the School may admit candidates with other qualifications and experience deemed suitable for entry to this programme of study.

Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert): Level M

You will need:

  • to have a degree or diploma or relevant professional experience, training or other qualifications and experience deemed suitable for entry onto this programme

Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip): Level M

You need:

  • to have a degree or diploma or relevant professional experience, training or other qualifications and experience deemed suitable for entry onto this programme

Master of Arts (Education) (MA): Level M

You will need:

  • to have a degree or diploma or relevant professional experience, training or other qualifications and experience deemed suitable for entry onto this programme 

Master of Education (MEd): Level M 

You will need: 

  • to have a degree or to hold a diploma or other qualifications judged satisfactory for this purpose.
  • you must have successfully completed a programme of professional training.
  • you must have relevant experience.
  • the School may admit candidates with other qualifications and experience deemed suitable for entry to this programme of study.
