The Department offers a range of doctoral research programmes. These are tailored to suit different constituencies by drawing on different combinations of core research training and taught masters modules.
There are four taught doctoral programmes within the school which comprise of taught modules and a research thesis as well as the cross college Integrated Study (Social Sciences) PhD. Alternatively you can undertake a research degree by thesis. All offer part-time study as an option. Visit the Postgraduate Research pages to find out more about applying.
The Department has a very active community of Doctoral Researchers. We have around 130 current doctoral researchers (PhD and EdD) based in the Department. These researchers (spanning the UK as well as many overseas countries) work across a diverse range of contexts including home and community settings, schools, colleges, higher education, government agencies and voluntary bodies.
