About

Paul joined the School of Education 2006 to take up a three-year research post as a research fellow in VICTAR. He is working on a Sightsavers International funded project studying the educational inclusion of children with visual impairment in developing countries. This involves establishing an evidence base demonstrating the effectiveness of different educational models of education for children with blindness and low vision in developing countries.

Paul’s PhD research explored the potential role of inclusive learning environments in promoting effective learning for visually impaired adults through the exploration of e-learning and assistive technology.

Teaching

He contributes to postgraduate research methods and facilitates a session on assistive technology for visually impaired people as part of the Distance Education Mandatory Qualification in Visual Impairment.

Current research

Paul is currently investigating the development of braille literacy skills of primary school children who are visually impaired (blind) in Malawi.

He contributes to postgraduate research methods and facilitates a session on assistive technology for visually impaired people as part of the Distance Education Mandatory Qualification in Visual Impairment.

Other activities

He is on the editorial board of The British Journal of Visual Impairment and has been co-editor for the international journal, The Educator. He is a member of the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) research task group which runs the global campaign for ‘Education for All’ for children with visual impairment (EFA-VI). He also evaluates proposals on ICT for Lifelong learning applications for the European Commission.
