Our Careers and Employability team are happy to announce their win at the National Placement and Internship Awards 2012 in London.

The team won the award for Most Improved Commitment to Employability. This award celebrates the improved efforts and services provided by a University / Placement or Careers Service / Department in helping students apply and maximise their work experience opportunities. The award was presented by three-time Olympic medal winner Steve Backley.

The University of Birmingham has invested heavily in careers and employability support and are delighted to see the investment paying off through recognition from this award. The Careers Team have been praised for enhanced developments within their team and for adopting a model of integrated employability and internship support; something that has been rolled out and implemented across all Schools and Colleges at the University.

Students studying at the School of Education will benefit from this additional investment as there is now a well qualified dedicated Careers Team within the College of Social Sciences to support students with employment opportunities, work placements, internships and how to succeed at interview.

Out of the three University awards; this one was described as the most coveted. Our pride at winning this award is further heightened due to the fierce competition in the category, which included entries from University of Exeter, Newcastle University, University of Southampton and University of Reading.

This award also supports the recent news that The International Herald Tribune, the global edition of The New York Times, ranked the University of Birmingham 55th in the world and 9th in UK for post qualification employability.
