Dr Karen Guldberg discusses autism in India on World Autism Awareness Day

On 2 April 2012, World Autism Day, Dr Karen Guldberg from the Autism Centre for Education and Research talked to Tirna Ray from The Education Times about autism in India.

Three key concerns in India were highlighted: the need to raise awareness; offer appropriate schooling , curriculum and interventions and offer a range of training courses for professionals and parents. She also touched on teacher training in India and the need for short awareness courses as well as more in-depth professional development courses.

Globally, Karen thinks the biggest challenge we face is the need to learn to stop seeing autism as a disorder and to instead, celebrate its differences and strengths.
