Lei Chen is a Research Fellow of Railway Traffic Management in the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education. He has been working in the area of railway traffic management and train control over the last 7 years, involved in several large railway research and development projects in the UK and China. He is currently mainly working on the EC FP-7 Project ONTIME, responsible for a number of tasks on real time railway traffic management and system data modelling and integration. He also works extensively with the railway industry in Britain and China.
Lei Chen qualified with a BSc with distinction in Automation Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University in 2005. He went on a successive Master-PhD study in Traffic Information and Control Engineering in Beijing Jiaotong University from 2005. During the period of 2005-2008, he was involved in a number of projects on railway simulation, research and development of CBTC systems and CTCS etc at the State Key Lab of Rail Traffic Control and Safety.
He qualified with a PhD in Civil Engineering (Railway Traffic Management and Control) from The University of Birmingham in 2012. He became Research Fellow in the School of Electronic, Electrical and Computer Engineering in The University of Birmingham since 2012.
Lei was awarded IMechE W. A. Agnew Meritorious/C. N. Goodall Award in 2010, and The Michael K. O’Rourke PhD Publications Award in 2012.
