The University provides bursaries to help students during their degree programmes. In addition to these the School of Electronic, Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a number of bursaries and scholarships to encourage academic excellence, and to reward achievement, for our students.
Undergraduate fees and funding; university awards
At Birmingham we ensure that fears about finance do not constrain prospective students from considering university and that excellence is rewarded. The University offers a range of additional financial support for students studying at Birmingham in the form of bursaries, grants and scholarships.
Distinguished Performance Award for UK and EU students
At Birmingham we are keen to attract the brightest and best students. The School offers Distinguished Performance Awards to candidates with excellent academic records. Those eligible must achieve AAA at A-level (or equivalent), with the final eight successful recipients being selected through an interview process.
The Distinguished Performance Award has a value of £3000 and is available for the first year of study only.
Bursaries and scholarships for international students
The School of Electronic, Electrical and Computer Engineering offers scholarships to all international students applying for undergraduate programmes whose fees are not wholly paid by a sponsoring body. These are worth between £1,500 and £3,000 per year.
Other scholarships and awards
In addition to those awards available from the School and university there are others available to our students. Some of these scholarships are offered by the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences or through industrial partners or alumni. Others are awarded to students who are talented athelites or musicians. You can find details of these scholarships below.
BP STEM Scholarships
UK Students joining the School of Electronic, Electrical and Computer Engineering (EECE) in 2013/14 on Single Honours Masters EECE Programmes (UCAS Codes: HH6V, HH86, H605, and H607) will be eligible to compete for BP STEM Scholarships worth up to £20,000 (£5,000 per year).
These highly prestigious scholarships are renewable for each year of study, providing the recipient obtains full credits and an overall year mark of 70% or higher.
10 of these highly prestigious Scholarships, which are funded by a generous gift to the University from BP, will be available across the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
Successful students will be selected by BP and typically hold at least A*A*A at A level (or the equivalent in other qualifications).

Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme
The Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme (DTUS) is a university sponsorship programme for students who want to join the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force or Engineering and Science branch of the MOD Civil Service as technical officers after they graduate.
DTUS students awarded a bursary of £4,000 per year along with training pay for attending exercised and activities and an additional bounty for those students who complete 27-35 days of training which means most DTUS scholars receive between £5,500 and £6,000 per year. All DTUS students at the University of Birmingham are supported by Taurus Squadron.
In return, students are expected to remain physically fit and pass an annual fitness test, advance each academic year and serve for a minimum of three years as an officer after graduating.

Eliahou Dangoor Scholarship scheme
This scheme began in 2010 and will run for three years. The University of Birmingham is offering 44 scholarships for the 2012/13 academic year, and a similar number is anticipated for 2011/12. The scholarships will be valued at £1,000 and each award will be tenable for one year.

Institution of Engineering Technology Diamond Scholarship
All our courses are accredited by The Institution of Engineering Technology (the IET). As well as meeting the educational requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration, this enables high-achieving students on our courses to apply for a scholarship from the IET worth £1,000 per year.
If you achieve 3 ‘A’s at A Level, 3 'A' grade Advanced Highers or 5 'A' grade Highers and join one of our courses in Autumn 2013 and could receive an IET scholarship of £1000 per year during your studies.
Existing students commencing the second, third or final year in Autumn 2013 and expected to obtain 60 per cent or more in the end of year exams can also apply for an IET grant. The deadline for applications is 5pm on 27 June and you can apply in advance based on your predicted grades.

Music Scholarship
Birmingham’s musical heritage reaches back to our first Professor of Music, Edward Elgar. Today, both the new Bramall Music Building and the Barber Institute host regular public performances from our two orchestras, choirs, bands and other music ensembles. In recognition of this legacy, the University of Birmingham will be offering 30 music scholarships worth £1,000 for three years to new undergraduates in September 2013.

Sport Scholarship
The University offers a range of Sports Scholarships worth up to £10,000 for high performing scholars. If you are at the top of your game, Birmingham offers a number of scholarships and bursaries that could help you study here. The University of Birmingham Sports Scholarship programme is one of the best in the UK, providing a comprehensive package to support the most talented and dedicated athletes financially, physically and mentally.
UBSport currently offer around 40 University of Birmingham Sport scholarships per annum, in a gold, silver and bronze format, as well as supporting the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and the Royal and Ancient Golf Bursary Scheme.

Whitworth Scholarship Awards
Whitworth Scholarship Awards are for prospective or current undergraduates or postgraduates of any engineering discipline who have completed a two year engineering apprenticeship. The scholarships are valued up to £18,000 (for full time study up to £4,500 per annum is available over four years, for part time study up to £3,000 per annum). The closing date for applications is 30 June each year.
