Four new and exciting railway engineering programmes will be on offer to students from 2014: BEng / MEng Civil and Railway Engineering and BEng / MEng Electrical and Railway Engineering.

German ICE high-speed train

Building on the global reputation of the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education these innovative new programmes are aimed at applicants who are interested in studying civil or electrical engineering with a specific focus on the railway industry. Depending on the pathway, students will obtain a thorough Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering education, where the railway focus of study will gradually increase throughout the programme.

The railway industry is experiencing significant growth world-wide and especially in Europe with the design and development of new High Speed, Inter-City and regional railways, meaning future graduates will enjoy excellent career prospects. Furthermore, the Railway Systems theme will provide an understanding of the nature and operation of complex systems, useful in many non-railway and non-technical careers. Strong industrial contributions make the programmes immediately relevant, and the School will provide opportunities to apply for vacation and year-long placements in the railway industry.
