After working in catering for five years as my passion was food and cooking, I decided that I wanted to change my career and wanted the opportunity to use to my first degree - BSc in Food Technology. I was very interested in becoming an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) and found that I needed to obtain a further degree in Environmental Health as a part of the qualification to become an EHP.
I took a full-time MSc in Environmental Health course at University of Birmingham. Although the course was very intensive and required lots of hard work, I found it was very interesting and enjoyable.
The course was very well structured, the tutors were very knowledgeable and they always gave me all advice I needed. During the course I have gained a thorough understanding and learnt to apply relevant legislation and enforcement powers in all environmental health disciplines. In addition, I have learnt about legal procedures and practiced producing prosecution files from various scenarios.
In completing the course, I have not only strengthened my interest in food safety but have also found great interest in the new subjects, particularly housing.
The MSc Environmental Health has given me a great foundation to a successful career and the ability to apply my learning which I have put into practice during my placement.
