'Doing these [dissertation] projects gave me the courage and knowledge to identify minerals and rock types and make connections between relationships.'
Stacie Jones

I currently work for a geological consultancy as a Junior Reservoir Geologist. The company specialises in Reservoir Geology, Biostratigraphy and Chemostratigraphy, with clients around the world. My duties include thin section preparation and description, grain size and modal analysis, XRD analysis, SEM preparation and analysis and textural and mineralogical analysis. The company are also training me in core description and sedimentary logging, facies analysis and depositional modelling and detailed trace fossil analysis.

I left the University of Birmingham with a MSci Geology and Geography degree. All through university I had a very keen interest in petrography in particular igneous petrography. Because of this passion I tried to base as many modules on petrography as I could, so I took Igneous Petrology, Magmatic Processes, Sedimentary Facies Analyses, Sedimentary Petrology and Diagenesis and Stratigraphy.  The two dissertations that I did were solely based on igneous petrology and petrogenesis. Doing these projects gave me the courage and knowledge to identify minerals and rock types and make connections between relationships. Since my main role in my current job is a petrographer I think that my modules at university helped me a lot in getting the job. I also feel that my enthusiasm and keen interest to learn more in geology and petrology helped me achieve my current job position.
