Title of PhD: Characterization of emission from cooking

Lami Karimatu Abdullahi is undertaking doctoral research on emissions from cooking with the aim of characterizing and assessing the magnitude of personal exposure to a range of air toxics from various culinary techniques.
She has recently presented her research at the Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences postgraduate conference and also gave a poster presentation at a symposium “Finding a linkage between exposure and health effects of particles”, organized by the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Lami Karimatu Abdullahi is a graduate of Industrial Chemistry from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi Nigeria, and also holds a Master of Science degree Air pollution management and control from the University of Birmingham, UK.
After her masters degree, before she commenced her current PhD research, she worked with a major conglomerate in Lagos Nigeria, as a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) officer, where she was responsible for ensuring the Company’s compliance with statutory HSE regulations as well as managing the health and safety of all stakeholders. She facilitated the implementation of ISO 18001 Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management System at one of the Sugar Refineries owned by the Company.
Measurement and modeling of air toxics in indoor environments
Lami Karimatu Abdullahi has participated in the organization of several environmental awareness conferences and seminars with Waste Management Society of Nigeria (WAMASON) and Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (NISP) where she is an active member of these organizations. She is an affiliate member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, UK.
