Marcelo is developing his doctoral research in a collection of cutting samples from five wells drilled by British Petroleum from Cretaceous-Paleogene of Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, Brazil. All samples are available in the palaeontological collection of the Natural History Museum (NHM) of London. The project is based on both, calcareous nannofossils and palynological studies. At the same time, he is conducting a palynological study on core samples from Paleogene of Mississippi, USA, in order to compare with the brazilian data.

Qualifications

  • 2015 – MSc in Earth Sciences – Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil
  • 2011 – BSc in Geology – Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil

Biography

Marcelo completed his undergraduate studies in Brazil, during which collaborated with the preparation of a catalogue of the Scientific Collection of Macrofossils of the Federal University of Pernambuco and the geological mapping of Pacatuba, a city located in the state of Sergipe, Brazil.

During his Masters, he studied samples from the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, preparing slides in order to analyze the content of calcareous nannofossil, investigate the biostratigraphic framework and make palaeobathymetric inferences.
