Title of PhD: Neogene to millennial scale evolution of the Asian Monsoon: the role of Himalaya and Tibetan Plateau uplift.

Frederike is undertaking doctoral research into the evolution and variation of the Asian Monsoon since the Neogene and how the Himalaya and Tibetan Plateau uplift influenced the Monsoon. For this, she is analyzing marine sediment cores from the Japan Sea (IODP 127,128 and 346) for biomarkers which can be used for past temperatures and paleoenvironmental reconstructions.

Previously, Frederike held an M.Sc. degree in Geochemistry at the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands). This also included a one year stay at the Royal NIOZ Texel (The Netherlands) to write her thesis. Frederike holds a B.Sc. in Georesource Management from the RWTH Aachen University (Germany).
Frederike is interested in marine organic biogeochemistry, especially lipid biomarkers that can serve as proxies for past sea surface temperatures, and the application of isotopes for paleoenvironmental reconstructions.
