IGS PhD Researcher Wins Award in Hamburg

Marlene Schrijnders, 3d year PhD researcher at the University of Birmingham, Department of Modern Languages and Institute for German Studies, supervised by Dr Sara Jones and Dr Joanne Sayner, is conducting research into post-punk, goth and avant-garde in East Germany.

Throughout this year, she presented her project at various conferences in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. Her poster titled “Endzeitopia: Forever Celebrating The End. Endzeitstimmung & Alternativkultur im Kontext von Gesellschaft & Politik in den 1980ern” was awarded with the first prize at the Deutscher Historikertag in Hamburg in September. The poster will be presented at the DAAD Zentrenkonferenz in Washington D.C. in December 2016. Furthermore, Marlene is going to present a paper at the The Art Of Punk conference in Northampton in November 2016.
