2017 undergraduate essay competition - Why (I) learn German
In collaboration with the Institute for German Studies (University of Birmingham) the Midlands German Network is excited to announce its 2017 undergraduate essay competition. The theme is:
Why (I) learn German
Undergraduate students from the Network’s partner universities are invited to submit essays addressing the theme from any perspective. The prize is the cost of fees, accommodation and travel for a DAAD summer school in Germany of the applicant’s choice and up to a maximum of £1000. The winning essay will be published on the Midlands German Network website.
- Essays should be written in English and address the theme: ‘Why (I) learn German’
- Essays should be up to 800 words in length
- Applicants must be undergraduate students in any discipline at one of the Network’s partner universities (University of Birmingham, Aston University, University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, University of Warwick, Coventry University). Applicants should state their institutional affiliation at the beginning of the essay.
- The outcome of the competition will be announced at the end of April 2017 and the winner must have spent the award before the 15 July 2017 (however, the summer course may take place later where fees, flights and accommodation can be booked in advance)
