MA International Studies (Diplomacy) 2007
"I found that the course offered the perfect combination between practical and theoretical modules. We live in a changing world where on the one hand, practicality plays an important role in our job and on the other hand, the significance of concept is also a vital element of any profession."
I am currently working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia as a Junior Diplomat. The best thing about what I am doing now is exploring the practicality of my own country's foreign policy and knowing the process of its decision-making. I also enjoy being able to contribute my own ideas into policy planning.
I was attracted to apply to the University of Birmingham because of the practicality of the subjects it offers; the university ambiance, and the city, which I felt was conducive for an intensive period of study. I would recommend the University because of the campus and location; it is a self contained and fairly secluded location, which encourages studying but also provides a lively 'university life'.
I found that the course offered the perfect combination between practical and theoretical modules. We live in a changing world where on the one hand, practicality plays an important role in our job and on the other hand, the significance of concept is also a vital element of any profession. The learning experience at the University certainly helped me to develop both sets of skills.
I found my University degree was helpful in finding employment. I worked as a summer analyst at Investment banking of Citibank Jakarta once I graduated and I believe that one of the modules on the programme, Political Risk Analysis, helped me to better understand the business world and the impact of political factors.
