On Tuesday 28th February, POLSIS and the POLSIS society (POLSOC) hosted an alumni careers event that was well attended by POLSIS students across all years. University of Birmingham alumni from the worlds of law, media, teaching, politics, financial services and the third sector detailed their own career paths and offered advice to students on maximizing the wealth of opportunities and experiences available whilst studying at the University.
The ‘speed networking’ format of the evening enabled alumni and students to interact on a small group basis and ensured that all of the students who attended were able to obtain direct insights from all of the alumni speakers. The evening concluded with an open networking session which offered the perfect opportunity for the students to interact with the alumni, each other and POLSIS staff.
Hannah Lane, POLSOC Vice Chair "In the current graduate employment market there is an ever-pressing need for students to think in advance about potential career avenues. The POLSOC committee hope that our alumni careers event enabled our members to think about different careers that they could go into following their studies at the University of Birmingham. Students were able to network at the event, seeking to establish contacts and gain advice. The event was very successful and the committee are seeking to continue to provide careers advice for our members in the future.'It gave us a real insight into how international politics and institutions work."
Many thanks to all of the alumni participants who gave up their time to speak at this event; POLSIS highly value the ongoing support of our graduates.
