Professor Nicholas Wheeler, Professor of International Relations in the Department of Political Science and International Studies as well as Director of the newly established Institute for Conflict, Cooperation and Security talks about why he came to the University of Birmingham.
My name is Nicholas Wheeler and I’m Professor of International Relations in the Department of Political Science and International Studies as well as Director of the newly established Institute for Conflict, Cooperation and Security here at Birmingham and I came to Birmingham because I was really excited about being part of a university with a forward looking research agenda which is committed to promoting itself as a major university in the 21st century and I wanted to be part of that story and contribute to Birmingham becoming a really strong university in the field of international relations and security.
One of the really important factors in drawing me to Birmingham was the possibility of working in a really strong interdisciplinary research environment, the opportunity to work with some of the best social scientists in their respectivefields
This was the right time in my career to make this kind of move to come to somewhere which has such a strong collection of social scientists some of the very best people in the world and the chance to be with those people and be enriched by them and to share with them in developing the social science research agenda of the university.
