Birmingham: the University and the city

The City

Think Birmingham is a boring industrial city? Think again. Birmingham is brimming with life and culture, making it a wonderful place to live, study and work. The city offers culture and diversity, and most of our students fall in love with the city – around 40% of the University's graduates choose to make Birmingham their home. In 2015 Birmingham was chosen by Rough Guide as one of the 10 best cities to visit in the world.

POLSIS is located on the University of Birmingham's main campus in leafy Edgbaston just a short train journey away from the city centre.

Don't take our word for it listen to some our students tell you why they love Birmingham.

Student enhancement activities

In POLSIS we offer much more than a degree. As a student here, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, you have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of events, with some or all of the costs paid for by the department. Some of these are targeted to help you build skills and experience for your CV, others are more open events designed to expose you to high-level speakers on current debates relevant to all POLSIS students.

In the past couple of years, for example, many students have benefited from the Model UN, Model NATO and Brussels study trip. In addition, we have organised several public debates such as Immigration in the 2015 British general election and Britain's membership of the European Union and all students are welcome to attend the POLSIS seminar series, IGS and ICCS seminars and other events in the School of Government and Society.
