By providing opportunities for students to acquire specialist expertise in Russia, East-Central and South-Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, studying at CREES enhances our students' career prospects.

CREES students enjoy state of the art facilities in the newly refurbished Muirhead Tower, where the Centre is located. Each student is allocated an academic tutor dedicated to supporting them individually during the course, in addition to having access to a range of student support services offered within the university.

A wide range of modules available in CREES gives students an opportunity to tailor their course of study to their own academic interests.

An important feature of our postgraduate training is the provision of language courses. Our intensive course in Russian language for beginners has been especially developed to enable social scientists to acquire quickly the necessary vocabulary for their specialist fields of interest. We also provide language courses in Polish and Ukrainian.

All postgraduate students join a vibrant, close-knit community of staff and students and are seamlessly integrated into the life of CREES, the highlight of which is the CREES Annual Conference at the Cumberland Lodge (www.cumberlandlodge.ac.uk) in Windsor Great Park in June each year.

Language Training

An important feature of the Centre's postgraduate training is the provision of language courses. Our intensive course in Russian language for beginners has been especially designed to enable social scientists to quickly acquire the necessary vocabulary for their specialist fields of interest. Intermediate and advanced-level Russian language training is also available, and courses in Polish and Ukrainian have recently been introduced. Russian television is received in the Centre and extensive use is made of television and video material in language teaching.

Students are also encouraged to attend a one-month language course in Russia or Ukraine during the summer vacation.
