CREES is a research oriented, multi disciplinary centre with wide ranging expertise and long standing excellence in researching Russia and Eastern Europe. With its international profile and links, CREES provides a rich, immersing and inspiring environment for research students.
The MA, MPhil and PhD research degrees enable students to pursue an independent research project while benefiting from a range of taught modules in generic research training, specialist modules in Russian and East European Studies and language training for research purposes. Research degrees offered:
Students come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Approximately 40% of students come from outside the UK. CREES PhD students have been exceptionally successful in gaining academic positions in leading universities across the world. Many of them also work for governmental institutions, international organisations (EU, OECE, the World Health Organisation etc), business and media.

Students admitting to a research degree are expected to demonstrate that they already know Russian (or another relevant East European language) and have a good background knowledge of the countries concerned.
Candidates without adequate preparation in these areas are required to register for a taught master's degree.
