Developing the Eastern Partnership – What Role for Germany?

At the invitation of the Representation of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Poland, Dr Wolczuk participated in the discussion of the Eastern Partnership and German foreign policy.

The German side was represented by former foreign minister of the German Democratic Republic and former member of the Bundestag, Markus Meckel along with Dietmar Nietan, a current member of Bundestag.


Poland was represented by Andrzej Halicki, member of the Polish parliament and Artur Michalski, Director of the Eastern Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. The debate was moderated by Tomasz Wroblewski, the editor-in-chief of the daily ‘Rzeczpospolita’.


The discussion involved an animated debate on the challenges of formulating and coordinating the EU policy towards the Eastern partner countries in response to the complex developments in the region.
