Drs Kataryna Wolczuk and Matthew Frear participated in briefing seminars at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for the new British ambassadors to Ukraine and Belarus.
The events took place at the FCO in London, with Dr Kataryna Wolczuk attending a seminar for Ukraine on 19 June and Dr Matthew Frear participating in a seminar for Belarus on 5 July. These CREES specialists joined other UK officials as well as representatives of think tanks and international organizations from across Europe to discuss and debate key issues in the region with the new ambassadors before they took up their new postings. The briefing seminars considered amongst other things the latest developments in domestic politics, economic matters and foreign affairs for both Ukraine and Belarus. The new British Ambassador to Belarus, Bruce Bucknell, took up his post in Minsk on 11 July and the Ambassador-designate to Ukraine is Simon Smith.
