On 04 October 2012 David White and Richard Connolly of CREES gave talks to accompany showings of two films ('Putin's Kiss' and 'Khodorkovsky') at Birmingham Central Library Theatre. The films were being shown as part of the West Midlands Human Rights Film Festival organised by the Birmingham International Film Society.
David White used his knowledge of Russian opposition politics to provide context to the first film which focuses on the unusual relationship between a young activist in the pro-Putin youth movement, Nashi and a well-known campaigning opposition journalist. Richard Connolly is an expert on the Russian economy and was able to answer a range of questions on the role of the oligarchs in the Russian economy.
