Dr Deema Kaneff, Reader in Social Anthropology, CREES, travelled to Almaty, Kazakhstan last week to give a series of lectures. Part of the British Council INSPIRE project ‘Innovative Teaching and Research through Academic Partnership’, Deema gave a series of lectures to second and fourth year undergraduate students at the Faculty of Economics and Finance, the Kazakh British Technical University on the topics of: consumption and commodities, markets and moralities, the informal economy, transnational corporations and globalisation and transnational migration in Europe.
In addition, during the week she met with the Dean of the Faculty, amongst other colleagues. She also met with a number of Kazakh students interested in continuing their postgraduate studies at the University of Birmingham.
