In May 2010, during Dr Yemelianova’s visit to the KBTU, Professor Zhanabayeva and Dr Yemelianova had a series of talks with Professor Zoya Tuyebakhova, the KBTU’s PVC responsible for teaching programmes, Professor Saltanat Amirgaliyeva, the KBTU Dean of the Academy (PhD programme); Professor David Lal, the KBTU Dean of Master Programmes and Ms Yuliya Kharkova, the KBTU’s Director of External Affairs Department.

Following those talks it was proposed to widen the existing project activities towards possible development of joint MA and MEd programmes in Higher Education and an MA programme in Social Sciences Research which would be based on existing UoB programmes but tailored for their specific requirements with the possibility of the development of dual degrees in the future. It was envisaged that the current project could provide a framework for wider collaboration between the two universities. Both teams agreed to work on the joint application for further substantial external funding within ERASMUS MUNDUS or TEMPUS programmes.

In Almaty Dr Yemelianova and Professor Zhanabayeva had a meeting with Ms Lena Milosevic, Director of the British Council in Kazakhstan. Ms Lena Milosevic expressed her interest in visiting the UoB and meeting VC and other  senior management in order to clarify the obvious benefits of the collaboration for the British side.
