Alistair Burt MP visits the School of Government and Society

Alistair Burt MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO Minister with responsibility for Afghanistan) visited the School of Government and Society on Thursday 22nd March to provide his views on "UK Engagement in Afghanistan".

Professor Mark Webber (Head of the School of Government and Society) invited staff, students and alumni to this open lecture and question and answer session with Alistair Burt MP to discuss various issues including the role of the international military mission in Afghanistan and international support to Afghans to help build capacity around security, governance and economy.

Students and staff asked probing questions on a range of issues including women’s rights in Afghanistan, the role of DFID and the changes that will happen when UK troops withdraw in 2014.
