Student funding opportunities

Student Enhancement Fund (Government and Society)

Amount available: Maximum £100 per individual, or up to £500 for group activities.

This scheme allows students to take greater control of their own personal development, encouraging creative thinking about enhancement opportunities and providing tailored experiences for individuals or groups of students with specific interests and career ambitions.

CLAD Educational Enhancement Project Fund

Amount available: Maximum £1000 (£500 for a one-off event).

The aim of the student-led projects strand is to offer our undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to directly engage with, and contribute to, the education enhancement agenda at the University of Birmingham while gaining valuable project related skills and experience.

Gateway Bursary

Amount available: Up to £2000 (Any student in their 1st, 2nd or penultimate year).

The Gateway bursary provides financial support to students at the University of Birmingham undertaking internships or work experience relevant to their future career. The aim of the bursary is to assist students in improving their personal and professional development by allowing them to take up critical experiences they may otherwise not be able to afford. Awards are available for work experience placements throughout the academic year.

Research Experience Bursary

Amount available: Up to £500 (Any student in their 1st, 2nd or penultimate year). 

The University of Birmingham Undergraduate Research Experience scheme offers financial support of up to £500 for undergraduates to undertake research experience in the summer vacation.

International Work Experience Bursary

Amount available: Up to £800 (Any student in their 1st, 2nd or penultimate year).

The University of Birmingham International Work Experience bursary offers financial support of up to £800 for undergraduates (except final years) to undertake work experience overseas in the summer vacation. In addition, one successful candidate will be able to request funding assistance of up to £1,000 through the prestigious Enterprise Award, made available by Enterprise Rent A Car.

UK Professional Work Experience Bursary

Amount available: Up to £800 (Any student in their 1st, 2nd or penultimate year).

The University of Birmingham UK Professional Work Experience bursary offers financial support of up to £800 for undergraduates (except final years) to undertake work experience in the UK in the summer vacation.

Enterprise Scholarship

Amount available: £6000 over 3 years (1st year students).

Enterprise is now seen as an attractive and viable career option; becoming an entrepreneur or taking the lead in enterprising opportunities has become the way forward for many students studying for a degree. To further encourage this approach, the University will be offering one Enterprise Scholarship worth £6,000 over three years for the 2012/13 academic year.

A unique scheme to give ambitious students once-in-a-lifetime opportunities as interns in top global companies.

Alumni Impact Fund

Amount available: This is dependent on the decision of the panel. Each College has an equal amount of money (which varies year on year and will decide whether to award funding and how much, depending upon the bid.

Each year, money generously donated by our alumni through the Circles of Influence campaign is allocated to innovative projects from around the University that will have an immediate impact on our staff and student experience. This funding is available to staff and students of the University of Birmingham.
