International Relations (Contemporary Asia-Pacific) MA
I chose to study with POLSIS as the University of Birmingham has a rather high ranking in the subject field of Political Science. Before I applied to Birmingham I also read about the profiles of the professors and lecturers on the POLSIS website and learned that they have brilliant qualifications and experiences.
I am studying International Relations with a focus on Asia-Pacific Security. Before coming to Birmingham, I worked for a number of years at the US Consulate General in my hometown of Guangzhou in South China. During my work, I gradually developed a strong interest in the subject of International Relations so I decided to go back to school and study the subject further and in a more systematic way, even though my undergraduate degree was in English Literature and doesn't have direct relevance to International Relations.
I did some research before picking my university and I learned that Birmingham is a prestigious university in the UK. It's one of the red-brick universities, a member of Universitas 21 and also a member of the Russell Group. These were the important factors when i made my decision to apply here. What's more, it's located in the 2nd largest city of the UK and has all the benefits and conveniences of a buzzing metropolis.
I’m not sure what I’d like to do after I graduate – it’s hard to say at the moment. My first option would be to pursue further doctoral studies; my second option would be to look for a job in a field or organisation related to my degree, such as the UN or international NGOs.
