Mark Hughes teaches on the undergraduate nursing programme (B700), and is also the Admissions Tutor for the programme. He teaches on the following modules: Community Care (leader), Developing as a Health Care Professional, Basic Life Support, Transition to Professional Practice, Moving and Handling.
Current duties: Module leader for the (BNurs) Community Nursing, Public Health and Long-term Conditions modules, involving support of those students, and liaison with Clinical Mentors and Practice Placement Managers. I have been the Admissions Tutor from April 2008 to the present for the Bachelor of Nursing degree. This involved organising the screening team who screened in excess of 1800 UCAS forms for 104 places. Professional interests include: mens’ health, public health, supporting students in placements, interprofessional working, promotion of breastfeeding, prenatal psychology.

Mark Hughes’ work experience has been predominantly in the sphere of primary health care, working as a district nurse for three and a half years and as a health visitor for eleven years. He had a complementary role as a nurse member of Eastern Birmingham Primary Care Trust’s Professional Executive Committee for three years. He has worked as a lecturer at the University of Birmingham since 2004.
