Dr Daly is a Senior lecturer in Nursing and Programme Lead for Quality Assurance & Enhancement
Dr Daly’s clinical experience and early educational career were closely involved with the critical care domain and the management of English National Board specialist courses. This enabled him to hold several posts and develop professionals links with institutions within the West Midlands region and beyond. Since moving to the University of Birmingham in Sept 2003 Dr Daly has expanded upon his undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experiences and taken the departmental lead on clinical placement partnerships for nursing, QAA Major Review and more recently the role of Programme Lead for Quality Assurance and Enhancement in the newly formed College of Medical & Dental Sciences. This involves working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders to enhance the quality of healthcare education within the University and placement provider settings.
Dr Daly has managed a variety of externally funded research projects these include a Black Country Education & Training Consortium-funded project entitled: ‘Matching Learning Outcomes to Service Needs’ This project examined local perceptions of the fitness for purpose of aspects of the RN/DipHe programme. He was lead researcher on a Single Regeneration Budget project in collaboration with Walsall MBC to investigate issues surrounding recruitment from a local South Asian population into nursing education. He was also co-researcher in the NHS Executive-West Midlands funded project to evaluate the impact of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner role upon primary care practice in the West Midlands region.
Dr Daly has published papers on critical thinking, advanced nursing practice, recruitment into nursing education from the UK South Asian population, GP’s views of nurse-led paediatric asthma services and other topics in international and national journals.
Dr Daly has supervised MPhil and PhD students in areas such as cultural competence, clinical supervision, witnessed resuscitation and evidence-based practice.
