Carol Rowe is a lecturer in physiotherapy in the School of Health & Population Sciences.
She is also Head of Student Development and Support for Nursing and Physiotherapy and welfare tutor for physiotherapy. During her time in post she has developed a particular interest in supporting students with dyslexia.
Carol’s clinical background is in respiratory and cardiovascular physiotherapy which is reflected in her teaching activities and post professional qualification studies

Biography
After qualifying as a chartered physiotherapist in Birmingham in 1982, Carol worked clinically for the NHS in the West Midlands where her interest in cardiovascular and respiratory physiotherapy flourished. In 1986 she moved into physiotherapy education becoming a student teacher at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, the school at which she herself had trained. Since this time she has remained in educational provision experiencing the move of physiotherapy education from the NHS into the university.
Carol has extensive experience in module and programme development, delivery, assessment and evaluation at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Carol has taught across the curriculum but finds teaching in her speciality particularly rewarding with her clinical activity continuously informing her subject delivery to students.
Carol has previously undertaken the roles of year tutor and examinations officer and spent a period working on the Core management group. She is currently enjoying her role as welfare tutor and Head of Student Development and Support, roles in which she is able to develop and facilitate the pastoral care of students. In addition she is chair of the physiotherapy student staff committee and chair of the mitigations panel for the School of Health and population Sciences. She also serves as chair for University Primary Appeals Committees.

Research
Following on from an MSc disseratation on “The physiological and metabolic response to a 10 metre shuttle walking test in patients with Chronic Obstructive Airways disease” Carol commenced PhD studies at Birmingham University researching the use of walking tests in the assessment of patients with peripheral vascular disease and test sensitivity to change following an intervention of electrical stimulation of the calf muscles in this client group.
Research interests also focus on support for students with disabilities.
